Abstract

Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, also known as Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) welding, is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. This is   very common welding process that rapidly develops in lately three decades and is applied in many fields of mechanical engineering. One of norms to estimate the quality of the weld is its tensile strength.  This paper presents a study on the influence of technological parameters on tensile strength of the welding sample when TIG welding mild steel. The investigated parrameters include welding current, gas flow rate, and gap between two parts of the welding specimen. Using Taguchi method with Minitab 8.1 software, the study has defined the levels of the influence of the parameters on the yielding limit as well as on the ultimate strength of the welding sample. The sets of appropriate parameters for yielding limit and  ultimate strength of the welding sample  have been  found here, too.
