Abstract

The accuracy of measuring instruments play vital role in control and monitoring system. The interpolation techniques widely used to reduce measurement error caused by nonlinear characteristics of sensors. In this study, the ability of improving the accuracy in the temperature measurements using the akima interpolation algorithm was investigated in comparison with the linear interpolation method. This study was implemented on the temperature measuring circuit using Arduino UNO M3 and the temperature sensor DS18B20 in the range of 40-50 oC. The interpolation equation was obtained based on the sampling temperature points and their corresponding analog to digital values. Therefore, the other temperature values can be determined by solving the interpolation equation. Simulation and experimental results shown the great benefit of the Akima interpolation method in improving the accuracy of the instrument for measuring temperature. The Akima interpolation algorithm can be also applied for improving the accuracy of measurement of other non electrical quantities.
