Abstract

In this study, Bi3+ doped SnO2 quantum dots were fabricated by sol-gel method and hydrothermal method with Bi mass ratios (0, 4 wt %). The structure and morphology of the materials were studied and analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The crystallinity of Bidoped SnO2 is getting worse with increasing doping concentration. The average size of SnO2 nanocrystals is about 3–8 nm. The influence of Bi3+ ion on the absorption properties of the materials was investigated by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The comparison between pure SnO2 and SnO2:Bi3+ samples shows that with the doped samples, the bandgap is reduced, thus the light absorption range is extended.
