Abstract

Monitoring and checking emission levels on internal combustion engines is a very necessary job to protect the environment. To control this problem well, it is necessary to have specialized measuring devices. This paper introduces the results of research, design, and manufacture of opacity measurement equipment working on optical principles. To measure the opacity (turbidity or opacity) of an engine exhaust, the simplest method is to pass the exhaust gas through a measuring chamber with an anechoic surface filled with exhaust. The turbidity of the exhaust gas is determined through the decrease in the intensity of the light that is incident on the optical receiver. Thus, in essence, it is to determine the change in light intensity in the measuring chamber when the engine exhaust gas passes through. To do this, we must use an optical sensor, which can be: Optical transistor, photoresist... In this study, light dependent resistors (LDR) were used in this study.
