INVESTIGATION THE EFFECT OF BLADE OUTLET ANGLE ON THE PERFORMANCES OF THE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP USING COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS
Abstract
The performance of centrifugal pumps is highly dependent on the geometrical parameters of the impeller profile. Although, it is possible to determine these parameters based on the design documentation. In many cases, however, the instruction ends with specifying the parameter’s range rather than a specific value. Therefore, the impeller design process does not guarantee optimal performance. In this paper, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of the flow through the impeller with different impeller configurations is performed. Different configurations of impellers are obtained by considering impellers with different exit blade angles (16°, 20° and 25°) and different number of blades (5, 6 and 7). The Ansys BladeGen, Ansys TurboGrid, and Ansys-CFX modules are used for geometry modeling, meshing, and solving, respectively. Based on the CFD analysis, it can be seen that the maximum hydraulic efficiency is achieved for impellers with 25° and 7 blades.
