A STUDY ON IMPROVING LISTENING SKILLS WITH DICTATION FOR SECOND ENGLISH MAJOR STUDENTS AT HUNG YEN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION
Abstract
Improving students’ listening skills is one of the greatest concerns of all teachers at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, at Hung Yen University of Technology and Education (UTEHY), especially for English major students. The study was carried out to investigate the students’ attitudes, advantages, and disadvantages of using dictation in improving the students’ listening skills and suggest some possible activities to apply dictation successfully in learning listening skills. The study was conducted by giving questionnaires to 61 second-year students of English major, interviewing four teachers, and analyzing 61 pre-tests and post-tests of students at two classes (113202 and 113203) at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, UTEHY. It is hoped that this study will help both teachers and students in teaching and learning listening skills better.
