RESEARCHING, DESIGNING AND MANUFACTURING BIOFILTER

Abstract

This paper presents results of the fundamentals, design, fabrication and application of the process for the animal manure treatment by organic bed biofiltration. Biofiltration is a biological air pollution control technology for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Biofiltration has been demonstrated to be an effective technology for VOCs from many industries. Large and fullscale systems are in use in Europe and the United States. With proper design and operation, VOC removal efficiencies approximately of 96-98 % have been achieved. Important parameters for design equipment and performance are empty-bed contact time, gas surface loading, mass loading, elimination capacity, and removal efficiency. Key design and operation factors of the equipment include chemical and media properties, moisture, temperature, gas pretreatment, and variations in loading. The purpose of this research is to estimate the unknown parameters of a Biofilter dimensions such as: Biofilter dimensions, such as: biofilter volume (m3), porosity (%), airflow rate from fans (m3/s), length of the biofilter chamber (m), height of the biofilter chamber (m), and thickness of biofilter chamber in direction of airflow (m). Detailed results of which are presented in the in the results and discussion section.
